Excitement is building for next months Open Coffee Mallow meet-up which is being held on Tuesday the 5th of July from 10 am at , Bridhaven Nursing Home. Paul and Mary Clare Rochford ,  have kindly invited  our group to visit their facilities (Enter Code QK1-07-62D here) and meet with their residents some of whom are previous business owners within the town of Mallow and surrounds. We are looking forward to hearing their stories of how it has been for them as a business owner , and we believe they will have invaluable business advice and stories to share.

Last months Open Coffee meeting (some photos here) was well supported. We also welcomed new visitors, Judith Power of Style Coach and Mairead O Sullivan of Fermoy Print and Design. Lots of positive vibes coming from the group and lots of ideas of how to be innovative about business in recessionary times .

I wondered how everyone would feel about an evening meet-up so I broached the subject of having a more casual gathering later in the Summer , I am thinking maybe late August or early September and going with a barbeque for members to mingle over some nibbles and a glass of vino or two ;-)) , this will also allow for some members whom have not been able to attend due to work restrictions or other reasons , I will contact you all again in regards to this.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Bridhaven next Tuesday.
P.S. If you require further information please feel free to contact either myself or Elaine and we would be more than happy to help you.

Next Open Coffee – Tue NOVEMBER 2nd 2010, 10am – 12pm
Springfort Hall, Newtwopothouse, Co. Cork

And so it goes, Mallow Open Coffee meets hardcore Social Media in a fast and furious session on a cold morning yesterday.

It was tempting to stay at home, or in the office, but 22 people decided to descend on Springfort Hall for an overview of what Social Media is and how it can possibly help their business.

Ivan from Spiralli in action

We are on a high this week, as texts and e-mails pour in (well, a few anyway) thanking us for an informative and very useful workshop. So we hope that the sceptics will at least begin the conversation about Social Media without the word CR*P in it. We hope that those who are intrigued will go and find out more. And we hope that those who already relish in a SM or SN strategy, will explore the possibility of a campaign.

We have triggered the curiosity, piqued the interest, stimulated the semi-geek taste buds, and answered

the hard questions. It is up to those 22 people now to take that knowledge and attitude, and turn it into a skill of sorts. Slowly and tentatively!

Huge shout outs to Ivan O’Donoghue of Spiralli Business Solutions and Paul Brugger of City local Cork for the great presentations and giving up their morning for the good of Co. Cork!

Thank you also to Springfort Hall, for providing the room, facilities and fantastic service. Teresa and the team really looked after us well.

And not least the print media, Mallow Star, Cork Independent, Cork Advertiser and Cork News for giving us the column space to reach out to those not already online tweeting or blogging or linking in.

Mallow Open coffee returns to normal service on Nov 2nd, see you there!!

Next Open Coffee – Tue OCTOBER 5th 2010, 10am – 12pm
Springfort Hall, Newtwopothouse, Co. Cork

Have a look at the Workshops Page for more details

Indeed!! We are jazzing things up a bit at Mallow Open Coffee and offering every business owner the opportunity to learn more about Social Media and how it will impact and benefit their business, or not!

This initiative has come about because of the constant questions that arise at the coffee meetings, about Social Media, Social Networking, Web 2.0, blogging etc. Business owners are wondering if it is of any use for their specific industry. So we thought it best to hold an informative workshop where these questions are addressed. Head over to the Workshop Page to find out more.

A couple more new faces this month, and diversification was at the top of the list. (more…)

Next Open Coffee – Tue AUGUST 3rd 2010, 10am – 12pm
Springfort Hall, Newtwopothouse, Co. Cork

Another great morning at Mallow Open Coffee this week.

A nice small group this week, however, there were more new attendees than regular attendees. We are delighted to see that the word is getting out there, and the use of Social Media and Social Networking has played a big part in reaching out to the Business Owners of the locality.

Speaking of locality, we did have a visit from Kerry, so the Open Coffee beans are rolling in from far afield. A  big effort was made by everyone to explain their services and provide insight into their particular niche area. This is the essence of networking, and provides a win/win solution for all.

We are aware that we are in the midst of Summer and naturally, people have more important things on their minds, like a well deserved break, so we are grateful for all that take the time to have a coffee with us.

A few points to make from the general conversation. Firstly, businesses far and wide were discussed, even though the owners were not present. The viral movement of information is amazingly effective at passing the good word about worthwhile services.

A particular story of interest to any business owner is that of the “Credit Control Warrior“. Greg has had a very nasty experience and has been good enough to share it on his blog. This is such a despicable story that it attracted huge interest, empathy, and interaction on his blog. Everyone is hanging on a thread, hoping for a positive outcome for Greg and his company Fuzion.

Head over to the Polls page, and take our poll about a session on Social Media.

The Attendees page shows the newest additions to the list.

Have a great summer, and take a break from the business, you will be amazed at the creative ideas you come up with when you STOP thinking your business 24 hours a day. It’s a good time to work ON the business, rethinking strategies and new ideas.

See you after the next LONG weekend!

Elaine & Gráinne
