I would just like to say a huge thank you to those who make the effort to attend the Open Coffee each month or whenever they can ,  I think you all see  the benefit of such a relaxed and infromal approach to networking in todays pressurized society.

I took the opportunity this month to listen to the discussions going on around me with a view to getting ideas for future meet-ups.  The one conversation that stood out to me was by Nikki Williams who was looking for feedback from the group in regards to various aspects of her business, which included Flyer font use and phrasing , Nikki is embarking  on delivering a course  for Parents called United Parenting , Improving Family Relationships   to help parents who want to learn how to  improve their family relationship with their child , this I believe is what Open Coffee is all about , sharing , learning , supporting and giving advice when asked for it , the group includes business people from various backgrounds , from IT to Travel and Retail , so their combined experience is an invaluable offering to each and every member .

Following on from this meeting I had a fantastic chat with Sarah McMahon from Smack PR  ,  Sarah has been involved in Radio and Media and also been involved in the Mallow Racing Home festival for 2011 so has huge experience. We discussed the possibility of hosting an afternoon Showcase of businesses in the North Cork area , in conjunction with the Open Coffee Mallow group , in the near future .

I would  love your feedback on what you would like to see happening within the group in the future , remember this is your network and your ideas are valuable to its success ! . I have been playing with the idea of a rebrand and maybe holding more formal talks on alternate months , so to ensure that members get the most from these talks I would love to hear what topics you would like covered , EG :  PR , Advertising , accounting , Websites promotion , anything you feel you would like to learn more about . contact me through the email link here or phone me on 086 2119326 and lets get started .

Next months meeting should be interesting so do not miss out !!!!!

Date for next months Open Coffee meet-up is Tuesday the 4th of October you do not want to miss this !!

Excitement is building for next months Open Coffee Mallow meet-up which is being held on Tuesday the 5th of July from 10 am at , Bridhaven Nursing Home. Paul and Mary Clare Rochford ,  have kindly invited  our group to visit their facilities (Enter Code QK1-07-62D here) and meet with their residents some of whom are previous business owners within the town of Mallow and surrounds. We are looking forward to hearing their stories of how it has been for them as a business owner , and we believe they will have invaluable business advice and stories to share.

Last months Open Coffee meeting (some photos here) was well supported. We also welcomed new visitors, Judith Power of Style Coach and Mairead O Sullivan of Fermoy Print and Design. Lots of positive vibes coming from the group and lots of ideas of how to be innovative about business in recessionary times .

I wondered how everyone would feel about an evening meet-up so I broached the subject of having a more casual gathering later in the Summer , I am thinking maybe late August or early September and going with a barbeque for members to mingle over some nibbles and a glass of vino or two ;-)) , this will also allow for some members whom have not been able to attend due to work restrictions or other reasons , I will contact you all again in regards to this.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Bridhaven next Tuesday.
Gráinne
P.S. If you require further information please feel free to contact either myself or Elaine and we would be more than happy to help you.

Springfort Hall, Newtwopothouse, Co. Cork

ALSO

SOCIAL MEDIA WORKSHOP – OCTOBER 19th 10:00am sharp

Have a look at the Workshops Page for more details

Not only is it Social Media worth writing about, it is worth learning about!!

Open Coffee Mallow are hosting a FREE workshop on OCT 19th, for business owners to benefit from the expertise of the veterans, the leaders and the interested! To attend you must register your interest – head over to the Workshop page now to find out more.

The feedback is very good, and recent discussions at Open Coffee are on the importance of building relationships, getting more involved in networking, and supporting each other through really difficult times. We fear Ireland has yet to see the worst of the devastation experienced globally, but we have the added burden of the bank bailouts, mis-management of state funds, and ever decreasing services, along with increased costs.

But it doesn’t stop us trying. Adversity introduces us to ourselves, and we reinvent our businesses, our services, and ultimately ourselves. But that creates and builds a better country, in the long run.

Please get in contact, if you would like to become part of that future!

Socially yours,

Elaine

NEXT OPEN COFFEE – TUE June  1st, 2010 from 10am

Another day down, another Bank Holiday closer to summer. Some would ask “What summer?” but we know it’s on the way (once the ash clears!). There is a lot of scary stuff going on at the minute in Ireland. The country is mourning the loss of a favourite radio broadcaster, Gerry Ryan, while they are quickly approaching election day in the UK. Meanwhile an Irish rower has just traversed 2500 nautical miles across the Atlantic ocean, spending 118 days away from his family, and the Gulf of Mexico is slicked with crude oil. Some may be celebrating sporting wins over the weekend, and others drowning their sorrows, Irish style!

But in the library and then the bar of Springfort Hall today, there was little talk of losses today. Conversations crossed from twitter to local news to national politics and current affairs. There was  a lot of interest in the subject of Social Media and Social Networking, and especially the different takes on whether it should be used or not, and is it of any benefit.

With Web 2.0 firmly in place, who could argue that Social Networking is not the future, it’s the present. Businesses who are not “buying into” the concept of connecting with their clients and customers online, may find themselves in a dilemma by 2011.

So, Mallow Open Coffee are asking the question, are small businesses interested in learning more about the Web 2.0 world? Head over to the POLL page right now and cast your vote. We will certainly run a workshop if the need is there, even a taster of the benefits and uses of the various platforms that are now part of everyday business internet usage.

Next Open Coffee – Tuesday, December 1st 10am

What a week!

The rain would be enough to wash all of North Cork down the Blackwater into Waterford.

Despite the heavy downpours, we were delighted to see new faces at Open Coffee on Tuesday. Everything was discussed, from the “Apprentice” and “Dragon’s Den” to blogging,  Social Media and Current Affairs. And, of course, the weather – always a topic of discussion in Ireland!

After attending multiple networking events over the past weeks, we are very pleased with the relaxed layout of Open Coffee Mallow, and are working hard to keep it casual but relevant.

We are planning in the new year to invite seasoned business owners to give short talks on various aspects of running a business in Ireland today and in the future. We feel these would be of benefit to any budding entrepreneur or local business owner, especially those who do not get to meet like-minded people often in the course of their business.

So come along on Dec 1st and celebrate the beginning of the festive season with us while looking toward a brighter 2010 (is that two thousand and ten, or twenty ten?).

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mallow Star, The Corkman and C103fm for allowing us to spread the word over the past few months about this great initiative.

Thank you also to Mallow Print for featuring us in their Christmas edition of PROMO MAG.

Special thanks to all who are braving the elements to join us for coffee!

Yours respectfully,

Elaine & Gráinne

Many thanks to C103 FM for having us on the radio this morning, giving us the chance to let North Cork and surrounding areas know about the Open Coffee monthly sessions.

You can listen to it here:

I had no sooner come off the phone with the presenter, and my phone was ringing with enquiries about the location and times.

We are doing our best to promote Open Coffee and it’s concept in our local areas, so if you have any suggestions as to how we can reach small businesses, please let us know. We truly want this to grow and grow so that it becomes an integral part of many people’s monthly schedule and ask you to help us spread the word. Tell your clients, friends, family members and associates about a great FREE resource available at their doorstep.

Happy Networking!

Elaine & Gráinne
